It’s that time of year again!

A special time when we gather around the fire with friends and family, share gifts, and take in a holiday movie or two. Many of us will share memories while also sharing cannabis.

Here at Cloud 8, we’ve compiled our favorite holiday films that are fun to watch while enjoying your favorite Cloud 8 strains.

The Grinch

This timeless classic has been gracing our television screens since its airing in 1966.

Adapted from Dr. Seuss’ book How the Grinch Stole Christmas, this story has various versions; from the 2000 live-action film starring Jim Carrey to the latest animated version released in 2018 featuring the voices of Benedict Cumberbatch, Rashida Jones, Pharrell Williams, and Angela Lansbury.

Whichever option you choose, it’s hard not to enjoy the beloved tale of the Grinch and his attempts to stop Christmas, only to find the true meaning behind the holiday with the help of Cindy Lou Who and the rest of the Whos.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

The Griswolds are at it again in this Christmas classic released in 1989 and written by John Hughes.

Join Clark Griswold, played by Chevy Chase, and the rest of his dysfunctional family in celebrating the holiday season.

No matter what the traditional holiday task; hanging lights, putting up the Christmas tree, or cooking a Christmas turkey, the Griswolds always find a hilarious way to mess things up during the holidays.

While whatever can go wrong does for the Griswolds, the film is filled with typical mishaps that many families can relate to, and the film puts a hilarious spin on each screwup.

Plus, it seems we all have a cousin Eddy.

Home Alone

John Hughes once again makes Christmas movie magic with this family comedy originally released in 1990.

Starring Macaulay Culkin as a mischievous child who gets left home alone after his family goes to France for Christmas, this film unfolds by following Kevin McCallister as he defends his home against two burglars, Harry, played by Joe Pesci, and Marv, played by Daniel Stern.

The traps set for Marv and Harry are ingenious and hilarious! While you may know what already lies ahead, adding cannabis while watching this film will enhance its hilarity.

Elf

A heartwarming Christmas comedy that provides tons of laughs.

Released in 2003 and directed by Jon Favreau, Elf stars Will Farrell as Buddy, an orphan adopted by Santa and raised by elves. This holiday movie also stars Peter Dinklage, James Caan, and Bob Newhart. With such a stellar cast, it’s no wonder this film ranks as a fan favorite.

Follow the adventures of Buddy as he goes to New York to find his real father while spreading the Christmas spirit.

With a mix of humor, a touch of heart, and a bit of fantasy, Elf will have you screaming for Santa!

Die Hard

While not intended to be a holiday favorite, to some the seasonal airing of this film has marked the official start of the holiday season.

The franchise that stars Bruce Willis originally hit our screens in 1988 but seems to be gaining popularity during Christmas.

Taking place at Nakatomi Plaza during a company Christmas party, the plot tells of New York cop John McClane and his battle against Hans Gruber, played by Alan Rickman, as they attempt to steal millions in US bonds.

Whether during Christmas or any other time of the year, Die Hard is an action-packed movie filled with explosions, great fall scenes, and iconic quotes.

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas

Released in 1993 and produced by Tim Burton, this film is an animated masterpiece that has transcended traditional holiday movies.

Follow the story of Jack the Pumpkin King, Sally, and the citizens of Halloween Town as they discover the true meaning behind the Christmas holiday, while avoiding the devilish antics of the Boogie Man.

With Danny Elfman at the musical helm, this movie is packed full of memorable scores such as “This is Halloween” and “What’s This?”.

Combining mesmerizing music and stop-action animations, adding cannabis before watching A Nightmare Before Christmas will add new elements of amazement.

Bad Santa

Directed by Terry Zwigoff and released in 2003, Bad Santa is certainly the darkest comedy on our list.

Starring Billy Bob Thorton as Willie T. Stokes, a down-and-out conman poses as a department store Santa Claus to gain access to the store’s safe and get quick cash. He’s helped by his partner Marcus, played by Tony Cox.

Tailored for adults, Bad Santa is an offbeat holiday film filled with irreverent humor and a satirical take on the holiday season with hints of redemption and positive change.

A Christmas Story

A true feel-good family story that has reached icon status, A Christmas Story tops our list.

Taking place in the 1940s, this beloved story follows the adventures of Ralphie and his attempts to get an official Red Rider BB gun for Christmas.

Originally hitting screens in 1983 and directed by Bob Clark, who also stars as Swede in the movie, this film is packed full of memorable scenes that include Flick getting his tongue stuck on a pole, the Scut Farkus incident, and Ralphie’s father winning a “major award”.

This is an amazing American film that combines humor and relatable characters with tons of holiday spirit.

Just don’t shoot your eye out!
